Harnessing the Energy of the Full Moon: Tips and Tricks

Harnessing the Energy of the Full Moon: Tips and Tricks

Do your spells feel sluggish? Has your energy been pulled in 20 directions and none of them good? That’s the full moon calling—and no, it’s not here to ruin your week. It’s here to amplify. The question is: what will you let it amplify?

This post is your guide to working with the full moon to recharge—not unravel. No fluff. No guilt. Just grounded ritual, folkloric magic, and tools you already have.

Why the Full Moon Matters for Witches

The full moon has long been viewed as a time of power, culmination, and clarity. In traditional folk magic, it’s when energy swells to its peak—ideal for banishment, cleansing, protection, and manifestation.

But this isn’t just about casting a spell and calling it a night. Working with the full moon is also about knowing what notto do.

Do use it to:

  • Cleanse tools and spaces

  • Release what’s draining you

  • Set energetic boundaries

  • Charge items or intentions

  • Do deep self-reflection work

Don’t use it to:

  • Make big impulsive decisions

  • Burn yourself out chasing results

Full Moon Ritual for Energy Reset

What You’ll Need:

  • A mirror (handheld or wall-mounted)

  • A black or white candle

  • A small bowl of water

  • Something symbolic to release (scrap paper, string, etc.)

  • Your own reflection (yes, this is part of the magic)

Ritual Steps:

  1. Set the Scene: Turn off artificial lights and sit in a darkened room with only the candle and moonlight (or ambient outside light if the moon is hidden).

  2. Cast a Circle (Optional): Imagine your space held in a silvery bubble—no energy enters or exits without your permission.

  3. Gaze and Reflect: Look into the mirror, candle flickering behind or beside you. Say aloud: “I see what has served me and what has not. Tonight, I choose clarity.”

  4. Release: Take your scrap paper or symbol of what’s draining you. Pass it through the candle’s smoke, then dip it in water. Say: “I release you. You no longer have claim to me.”

  5. Seal: Blow out the candle, turn the mirror face-down, and sit in silence for at least a minute.

Moonlight & Mercury: A Caution

This month’s full moon is amplified by Mercury Retrograde’s impending chaos starting July 17. That means your ritual work is also a protection spell—because intentions set now can either fortify or frazzle you during retrograde.

The 6-Card Mercury Retrograde Tarot Reading is now available in the shop. It includes practical guidance and caution flags so you know what to expect—and what to avoid.

Tips to Keep the Magic Flowing

  • Use moonlight to charge tools, crystals (if appropriate), or even bath water—especially those used in protection or shadow work.

  • Mirror scrying can be especially potent this time of month. Just don’t ask questions you’re not ready to answer.

  • Journal or record dreams on the night before, the night of, and the night after the full moon. Messages are clearer than usual.

  • Avoid scrolling right before bed—let your subconscious rest and receive instead.

The full moon isn’t just for aesthetics and lunar selfies (though we support both). It’s your reminder to pause, reflect, and recharge your witchfire. Especially with Mercury Retrograde waiting in the wings, now is the time to reclaim your energy.
